With thanksgiving to God, we the parishioners of Our Lady of Guadalupe Roman Catholic Church are excited about our Parish's 100th year anniversary forth coming on the Second Sunday of Advent, December 10, 2023 at 11:00am. Our centennial celebration is in conjunction with our parish Patron Saint Feast Day, December 12th. Our Lady of Guadalupe Church is located in Navajo County, Northern Arizona, in the Diocese of Gallup, NM. Most Rev. James S. Wall, Bishop of Gallup will officiate Mass.
In 1913 the original Church was built and dedicated to Our Lady of Guadalupe by Bishop H. Granjon of Tucson, AZ under the supervision of Fr. George Marx. In 1923, Holbrook became a parish. The first itinerant resident priest was assigned to Holbrook and Fr. J.O. Barrette arrived. In 1915, Fr. Marx built the first rectory and became the first resident Catholic priest here. Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church of Holbrook would no longer be served by itinerant pastors.
There at this old church, was the presence of the Holy Eucharist. The heart of our parish. The reason for our Faith. Masses were celebrated here 100 times over, offered for many and their special intentions. Weddings and Baptisms were celebrated100 times over, and just as many funerals...the shedding of tears, both in sadness and joy. The Sacrament of Confirmations were conferred, the Sacrament of First Holy Communion given. Easter and Christmas Masses were joyfully Celebrated. A church that has seen many special events and gatherings and heard many songs and prayers of praise in worship by the faithful, offered for the glory of our living God and our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
The old Church presented the need for expansion to accommodate a larger congregation. The current Church went under construction across the street from the original church. The new Church was completed and dedicated in December 1963.
